6th Erasmus+ International Staff Week organized by Centre for International Cooperation was held last week during which we welcomed twenty colleagues from our partner institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Canada Great Britain, Iran or Ukraine.
During five busy days, we not only shared our "know how" with our colleagues through five educational workshops, but we also showed them how exceptional Olomouc as a (not only) student city is! From a visit to the unique Freeshop UP, through an educational tour of the Fort Science and the UP Dormitory and Canteen, to a visit to the nearby Archbishop's Castle and Gardens in Kroměříž, our colleagues had the opportunity to get to know and experience Palacký University, Olomouc and its surroundings in all respects.
Thank you and we loor forward to the seventh edition next year!

This hybrid event was organized simultaneously on-location in Olomouc, as well as online, bringing together a diverse group of 25 students from esteemed European universities such as LUISS Guido Carli, the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, and the University of Łódź.
Over the course of two comprehensive weeks, the students learned many aspects about the history, current trends and challenges surrounding the process of European Integration in Central Europe. Next to the academic program, which featured classes on subjects such as the Vysehrad Group and political history of Czechia and Central Europe, the students were offered an extensive social program, featuring field trips to Prague, Brno, and Dolni Morava for in-person participants, and online social activities together with a virtual tour of the UN in Vienna for the students joining online.

As usual in the week prior to the start of each semester, this time on February 8, 2021, we started the Orientation Week for Erasmus+ & Exchange students, but this time for the first time fully online. We presented our new incomings with our university background and also provided them with a lot of necessary information about studying and organizing their mobility. We are excited that, despite the difficult situation, we could welcome about a hundred new foreign students at Palacký University Olomouc in the summer semester 2020/2021, 30 of whom will study only virtually from their home countries. We would like to thank Vice-Rector Martin Kudláček, all other guests and also our great volunteers from ESN UP Olomouc for their participation and support in the Orientation Week.

It is widely held that an increase in the size and diversity of the academic community presents increased challenges in meeting the needs of international students and academic staff. The webinar aimed to examine the services provided to international students and academic staff while focusing on international students in the morning session and on international academic staff in the early afternoon session, with the aim to continue in discussing the topic in more details at the beginning of 2021.
The "Aurora European University Alliance" project was selected as one of the 6 best projects nominated for the STUDY IN award for work in the field of internationalization and will be included in the final selection round.
When creating strategic partnerships in the field of higher education within the Erasmus+ KA2 program, UP is the best in the Czech Republic for the period 2017-2020 in terms of the number of Erasmus+ KA2 approved strategic partnership projects. A total of 8 projects were approved and some of them are presented in the Gallery of Projects of the publication Cooperation of Universities Across Europe published by the House of Foreign Cooperation (available in Czech language below).
Erasmus + Strategic Partnerships are Erasmus+ projects that aim to generate innovative learning outcomes, practices and ideas, and where the emphasis is on promoting and disseminating results.
Palacký University Olomouc (UP) has been again the best among Czech universities in the application for the Erasmus + KA107 grant (International Credit Mobility) call 2020.
Based on the decision of the Erasmus+ Approval Commission, UP succeded with the largest grant, 1 690 509 EUR. The grant will enable the implementation of a total of 560 international study mobility and practical internships for students, teaching mobility and staff training between UP and its partner institutions in 20 non-European countries. The project is approved for the period of academic years WS 2020 - SS 2023.
When assessing the quality of these projects, their relevance in relation to the UP overall strategy of internationalization and individual partner institutions is evaluated as well as the development of established cooperation, administrative and mobility support, expected project benefits for the participating institutions and mobility participants, together with the dissemination and evaluation activities of each partial project.
The implementation of the aforementioned 2020 International Credit Mobility project is a sifnificant part of UP internationalization activities.
The International Relations Office UP came up with an idea of how to support and cheer up international students who are currently quarantined in the UP dormitories away from their families and friends. With the help of the Department of English and American Studies, we now broadcast concerts online every Wednesday and Saturday at 19:00.

On Thursday, March 5, 2020, the IRO UP prepared a short program visit to UP for 7 students and two teachers from the Moravian College, with which UP has a long-term cooperation within the Merrill program. Although it was only a few-hour stay in Olomouc, the group managed to admire the historical monuments in the city center, visit the UP Central Library, learn more about UP and mutual cooperation of institutions during reception in the representative UP and greet briefly with the Rector of UP.
Significantly, even after years of cooperation, new opportunities are emerging for students in the field of economics and health sciences. Both these new paths will be further developed by the respective workplaces.
In a way, the visit was unique in bringing together past, present and future students. At one table there were UP students who had completed their semester stay at Moravian College in the previous semester and those who were newly nominated for a study stay under the Merril program, a student from the Moravian College who is currently studying at UP and the above mentioned group of students, among whom future prospective students are not excluded.
The participation of the successful graduate of the Merrill Program, the current Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Jiří Stavovčík, B.A., MBA, who was willing to share his experience during his studies at Moravian College 26 years ago, was also important to support the emerging cooperation in the field of health sciences. Further negotiations on the new cooperation were confirmed in person by the Head of the Department of Applied Economics, Faculty of Arts, UP Mgr. Ondřej Kročil, Ph.D.
The conclusion of the visit was mutually positive as the meeting illustrated the functioning of the cooperation and confirmed the interest in further development of cooperation in the framework of student exchanges.

The “Education Abroad” study fair in Kiev in Ukraine has been taking place in the heart of the city since 2008, traditionally hosted in the Ukrainian House. This autumn the fair took place between the 15th and the 16th of November with the participation of more than 60 exhibitors. The Palacký University stand was part of the Czech booth organized by the Czech Centre in Kiev. Our university was represented by the staff of the central International Relations Office and the Faculty of Arts. Besides the variety of the degree programs in English, UP presented to the visitors short term programs such as summer and winter schools as well as other study options. The number of international students interested to study at UP in the Czech study programs has increased significantly during the last years. It is no surprise that the students from Ukraine represent a significant proportion of those interested to pursue studies in Czech. This year the number of Ukrainian students at UP has doubled compared to 2018. On the anniversary of the fall of communism in Czechoslovakia, the Czech Centre Kiev in cooperation with the Czech National Museum organized in the center of the city an open-air photo exhibition documenting the Velvet Revolution of 1989. On this occasion, the streets of Kiev were decorated with the Czech national flags.

This year, our university was represented at the fair of international education Begin Edu Fair in Kazakh towns Nur Sultan (28 September 2019; 2,205 visitors) and Almaty (29 September 2019; 2,281 visitors), in which exhibitors from 21 countries participated. Although it was the first time that Palacký University took part at a fair of this type, it was possible to build on our previous activities at this region – study exchanges and project cooperation of the Faculty of Science, preparatory one-year courses of Czech for foreigners at the Language Centre of the Faculty of Arts, etc. Apart from the stall of the Centre for International Cooperation in Education, prospective students could visit stalls of ten Czech universities. The stall of Palacký University, however, seemed to be the most visited and our representatives were the only Czech teachers who had their own presentation also in the support programme (together with our partner Kazakh agency). Thanks to the active approach of Dana Gronychová, Oldřich Břenek and Patrik Varga, more than 1,200 Kazakh secondary school students showed interest in the study at Palacký University.
